ACTIVITY 2: REFLETING ON MY PROJECT
“The Enormous Turnip” is a traditional story with some animal
characters. It is popular among pre-schoolers, especially the nursery
children. This story also has an element of reality and imagination with an
excellent, positive and happy conclusion for young children to appreciate.
I planned this lesson because I wanted to try out storytelling and relevant
activities to see how they can expand my young students’ understanding
and learning.
The role-play is designed in this lesson to cater to the needs of children
who are kinaesthetic learners. Generally the whole body movement helps
keep young children focus on the task. The role-play also allows the
children to sequence the story and enjoy the success of collaborative
efforts. Tumbling on each other in a safe manner allows children to
experience elements of rough and tumble play. In addition, bonds
between peers can be further enhanced.
