Southern California Telephone and
Energy has filed with the US Department of Energy for a permit to export 4 million tonnes of LNG per
annum from Louisiana to countries
in the Caribbean and Latin America,
specifically the Dominican Republic.
The company proposes to develop liquefaction facilities on Monkey Island along the Calcasieu Ship
Channel in Louisiana, and deliver
the cargoes to nations having a free
trade agreement with the US.

The Chief Executive of the SCT&E
LNG development company is
named as Greg Michaels, based in
Temecula, California.
The Monkey Island facility
would be in the same area as two
other US LNG export projects, Lake
Charles - involving UK company BG
Group and the Magnolia LNG venture led by Australia’s LNG Ltd.
However, one issue which could
be raised later is shipping traffic on
the Calcasieu Ship Channel as BG in
