The sixth annual Grindrod Garlic Festival at Grindrod Park features a wide variety of garlic-related activities, vendors, workshops and contests plus activities for kids, local produce, crafts and live music on Aug. 16 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There are free workshops on braiding and growing garlic and another on raising backyard chickens. You can create an ode to garlic and read it aloud at the festival. If contests are your thing, this event has a few. You can enter your garlic and vie to have the best hard neck, soft neck, coloured, braid (hard or soft neck), home-baked garlic bread or pickles.
