RiverTALK FREE Ja n u a r y 1 2 , 2 0 1 8 | Vo l u m e 8 , No. 1 9 Rural business licensing on radar The Regional District of North Okanagan is taking an interest in regulating business in the electoral areas. The Electoral Area Advisory Committee recently passed a motion to forward a reso- lution on business licensing to the Southern Interior Government Association for con- sideration. Currently, the regional district does not have business licensing powers despite the need to regulate and manage businesses to enhance economic development, fire fight- er safety and community planning within electoral areas of regional districts. As such, the RDNO is recommending that the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing amend the Local Government Act to provide business licensing powers to re- gional districts.
