The Textual Fatwa:
“Sunlight, photographic picturing is from the types of the prohibited picturemaking. It is –along with the sculptured pictures and picture-making (made) by
way of weaving and color painting – the same in terms of the ruling. The difference in the means of picturing and its instruments doesn’t necessitate a difference
in the (general) ruling. Likewise there is no effect on the ruling due to the difference in what is exerted from the effort in picture-making whether easy or difficult.
Rather what is considered is the picture (itself) as it is prohibited, even if its means
and what is exerted in it in terms of effort differ. The appearance of my picture –
along with my verdict regarding the rulings of fasting in the month of Ramadan –
on the two magazines of Al-Mujtama’ and Al-I’tisaam isn’t an evidence for my
allowance of picture-making, nor my satisfaction of it, for verily I wasn’t aware of
them picturing me.” {Member: ‘Abdullah Ibn Qu’ood, Member: ‘Abdullah Ibn
