Train through the pain?
Bodybuilders have a saying “leave your ego at the door”, meaning when you workout you should not be
trying to impress someone. Too many personal trainers and people think it is badge of honor to workout
in pain or be in pain when the workout is over. If your workout is causing you pain or a personal trainer
is causing you to train in pain you need to stop immediately. This is not only incredibly ignorant but
dangerous. Most trainers have no functional knowledge of physiology (how the body works) and simply
have people workout the way they have watched other people train.
Properly designing a workout can be complex and you should always have a specific goal when you
enter the gym or begin your workout. Hiring a personal trainer should remove any doubts about
working out with maximum effectiveness. A workout should be based on proven scientific principles and
not simply something you have seen someone do. Imitating someone else’s workout is a bad idea since
