The Amir
Garden Project
The aim of the Amir Garden Project is to help foster a culture of
environmental consciousness and social awareness in our Yavneh
community and beyond. By facilitating the space for our campers to
design, build, and plant gardens together, Amir’s curriculum challenges
participating campers to think critically about issues of hunger poverty,
and their Jewish obligations to others.
A love of God and religious community centers around many of the
lessons we learn through gardening. Whether we read about donating
the corners of our field [Leviticus; 19:10] or not silencing an ox when we
slaughter it [Deuteronomy, 26;2], religion stands central in our learning.
Amir grew from within the Jewish summer camp community, and
developed and honed its model with the great advice and commitment
demonstrated by the Directors in this community. Their commitment to
