Preparing for an Incoming Disaster
Tornadoes, earthquakes and fires – these are just some of the most life-threatening calamities that can
instantly take away hundreds or even thousands of lives. Most places with so many casualties are those
which are unprepared for the calamity. So the question is: how do we prepare for an incoming disaster?
First of all, health should always be the first priority. What good is an evacuation if you have no rations
or first-aid kits with you? It’s best to have your own disaster kit. This is where you will keep your
antiseptic solution, bandages, clean scissors and prescribed medications.
Aside from your disaster kit, bring with you a bag filled with hygienic items like soap, shampoo, toilet
paper and napkins. If you have a baby, don’t forget formula milk. You may be able to breastfeed your
infant; but if you’re under a lot of stress, it would be difficult to produce breast milk.
