Although Lincoln was born in poverty and grew up without his mother he managed to overcome the difficulties in his life. With the encouragement of his stepmother, he read and educated himself while working with his father, showing the hard working and determined person he was. President Lincoln showed incredible leadership skills during the taxing time, and proved that he was a political maverick that could bring forth great change.
