Evelina Mano B3 Abraham Lincoln Abraham Lincoln (1809 – 1865) was an American statesman and lawyer who served as the president of the United States (1861–1865).His achievements include rescuing the union of North American states during the Civil War, defending democracy and abolishing slavery, which affected the country's black population. Although Lincoln was born in poverty and grew up without his mother he managed to overcome the difficulties in his life. With the encouragement of his stepmother, he read and educated himself while working with his father, showing the hard working and determined person he was. President Lincoln showed incredible leadership skills during the taxing time, and proved that he was a political maverick that could bring forth great change.
