Standby Generators for Home Use
Stand-in generators are becoming part and parcel of the home electricity
circuit. Unlike portable generators, these generators are installed
permanently at the home. A qualified person connects the power source to
the home electrics, and any time there is power interruption or blackout, the
standby generator kicks in and takes over the role of supplying electricity to
the entire house. These generators which run on petrol, propane, or diesel
are able to sense when electricity is unavailable hence automatically power
up. Since the generator is designed to handle the same load as that of grid
supply, the generator unit is usually bulkier as compared to portable
generators. This is due to the generator being able to hold more fuel,
generate more electricity, and also operate for a longer period without
overheating. The use of backup generators in the home has been increasing
