Michelle Lolley RTFV 3350 September 23, 2013 Delta Airlines Radio Commercial – Copy Rationale Delta’s target audience includes all travelers. The commercial uses slight humor to encourage people to reserve travel arrangements through Delta’s website. It uses logical appeal in its references to safety and comfort, but it uses emotional appeal through humor and relating joy to booking a Delta flight. The commercial is spoken in a format consistent with the in-flight safety videos. I could not find previous examples of Delta advertisements on radio. It was difficult to find an idea where the words grabbed the audience’s attention and the airplane sound effects didn’t overpower them. I think the bell of an intercom and the words, “This is your captain speaking,” are familiar to many people, though. I also chose the safety video approach because of how well-known Delta’s in-flight safety videos are. Less
