BACKGROUNDER
Established in 2002, Bonnaroo is an annual four-day music and arts festival held each
summer at Great Stage Park, a 700-acre farm in Manchester, Tenn. Created by Superfly Presents
and AC Entertainment, an entertainment agency in Knoxville, Tenn., Bonnaroo draws in upward
of 80,000 people from across the globe. Named after the literal sense of the word, “Bonnaroo”
means “a really good time.” Those who attend Bonnaroo are given the title of “Bonnaroovians.”
Bonnaroo was originally created as an event for jam bands of the early 2000s to feature
their music. With the 12th anniversary of Bonnaroo coming up this summer, it has diversified
greatly, but still hosts the type of bands that made this a popular music festival in its beginnings.
Some genres of music featured at Bonnaroo include, but are not limited to: folk, blues, rap,
metal, techno and reggae.
