Desert Recreation District Administrative Manual SUBJECT: Tax Payer Identification Number Form W9 Requirement SECTION: General Administration POLICY NUMBER: AP206 DATE PREPARED: July 14, 2009 DATE REVISED: July 14, 2009 Purpose To set forth the Desert Recreation District’s procedures to ensure compliance with Internal Revenue Service (IRS) regulations pertaining to the issuance and accuracy of annual tax statements to vendors as follows: 1. IRS reporting requirements are facilitated. Certain types of payments made to vendors must be reported to the IRS. Having a signed W-9 form on file allows “Desert Recreation District” to report the correct combination of Tax Identification Number (TIN) and name, thus avoiding IRS penalties. 2. Evidence of validity is documented. Having a signed W-9 form on file is considered evidence that the payee is a valid individual or business.
