The Blue Mosque was built in Estanbul, Turkey and was built
between 1609 and 1617. Is located in front of the Hagia Sophia
Mosque (before it was a church built by the Byzantines) and
between there is a beautiful garden. It is the only mosque in
Istanbul which has 6 minarets (towers that surround it). It has lots
of domes on pendentives (the roof resting on the arches that it has,
these are holes to let the light). It was build of stone and marble.
The mosque was ordered build by the Sultan Ahmed, some people
say than he ordered build it to compete with the Hagia Sophia
Mosque. The mosque was built on the site of the Great Palace of
Constantinople (primary residence of the Byzantine emperors for
800 years) and the Hippodrome of Constantinople.
