Press release September 10 2026 QUENTIN DEBOIS HAS LEFT NEW YORK TO ATTEMPT TO BREAK THE WORLD RECORD FOR A SOLO CROSSING OF THE NORTH ATLANTIC Belgian skipper Quentin Debois left the port of New York on September 9 at 7:52:42 p.m. New York time (equivalent to 11:52:42 UTC—Coordinated Universal Time—or 1:52:42 a.m. on September 10 in Belgium) to set out on his second attempt at the world record for a solo west-to-east trans-Atlantic crossing. Quentin will have to cover 5,300 km in the North Atlantic, between New York and Lizard Point in southwestern England, in less than 17 days, 9 hours, and 57 minutes to beat the benchmark time set by American skipper Jay Thompson in 2023.
