Mystery of history Sunday February 28 2021 Patriarch Nikon. Nikita Minov Patriarch Nikon was born in a Mordovian family in the village of Veldemanovo in 1605. His mundane name was Nikita Minov. After his mother's death the boy was brought up by a stepmother. It was a difficult relationship – she often beat him, starved him. Since childhood, Nikita began to learn to read and write with the parish priest. At the age of 12 he went to the novitiate in the Makaryevsky Monastery, where he stayed until 1624. Because of his father's illness he had to came back home. He got married and began to serve in a neighboring village. In 1626 Nikita was appointed a priest in one of the Moscow churches. There he served for the next ten years.
