How 5S and Floor Tape Work Together to Provide Workplace
Organization
Organization is the guiding principle behind 5S—the efficiency protocol that consists of
“sort,” “set in order,” “shine,” “standardize” and “sustain.
” 5S has been proven to
improve the productivity and efficiency of working environments large and small.
Floor
marking is one of the main elements of a warehouse or manufacturing facility’s 5S
program.
Floor tape helps divide floor space into distinct areas, each with a specific
purpose.
Sorting, the first “S” of 5S system, is only possible when the usable workspace is
logically organized.
For instance, designated work areas and walkways may be lined
with a specific tape color, while storage and holding areas can be surrounded with a
different color.
Marking walkways is perhaps the most common use for floor tape in
many production environments.
When pedestrians are restricted to certain pathways
and areas, the overall safety of a facility is measurably improved.
