The History of La Colaissière
“On the borders of Anjou and Brittany”
In the Middle-Ages, the castle “La Colaissière” most likely belonged to a
knight named Colas, perhaps even to Colin de Tours, the collector of the river
toll in the nearby city of Châteauceaux.
At the beginning of the XVth century,
Jehan de Barbechat was the Lord of “La Colaissière”, which belonged to the
duchy of Brittany.
On the borders of the two provinces Anjou and Brittany, our region
suffered the misfortunes of the Breton succession war that ended in 1420 with
the total destruction of the city of Châteauceaux.
“La Colaissière”, which was
part of it, was badly damaged.
In 1480, King Louis XI gave the whole property –
castle and estate – of Châteauceaux to the family “de Brosse” from the
Penthièvre duchy in exchange for the death duties to the throne of Brittany.
In
1522, René de Brosse yielded the castle for good and loyal service to François de
la Poëze, his commander in chief of the armies of Brittany.
