In 1971, Graeme Whyte embarked
on a dangerous mission for the
African National Congress (ANC).
With all of its leaders in prison
and unable to communicate with the
South African people, the ANC badly
needed help.
White volunteers were recruited to
travel to South Africa. They carried
false-bottomed suitcases loaded
with ANC leaflets and set off ‘leaflet
bombs’ around the country. These
leaflets sent a message of hope to
Mandela and to all suffering under
Apartheid.
