5 Revista de Educación y Desarrollo, 10. Abril-junio de 2009. The family functioning was evaluated in 65 high school students with low school performance and it was compared with 90 with average school performance students at one high school of the University of Guadalajara. 54% of the families of students with low school performance were complete in contrast with the 73% of complete families of average school performance students. Students with low school performance scored higher in power evaluation, sex, money, and life satisfaction. Students with average school performance scored higher in problemsolving, parent-son communication, problem redefinition, support, and less symptoms and problems, as well as, higher parent education. We conclude highlighting, that families with students with low school performance had a greater level of vulnerability in their family functioning compared with the families of average school performance students.
