[4a] Donations and bequests Building the Cathedral was an undertaking that depended on the generosity of the local population. A register of 363 pages records the donations, made in the form of money, land or everyday items, from the mid-13th century to the Reformation. Donors came from all social classes, and their contributions were commemorated with Masses held for the repose of their souls. During the Middle Ages and later, the Foundation‘s income came primarily from donations made by the faithful in the form of money, goods or rent from buildings and farmland belonging to the Foundation, together with sales of wine and grain. These resources ensured the financing of all activities involving the construction and maintenance of the Cathedral.
