[6c] The workshop today The Œuvre Notre-Dame Foundation workshop at present occupies two sites. The stone-cutting, sculpture, and conser- vation workshop can be found, together with the technical office, in the rue des Cordiers. The forge, carpentry work- shop, and sawmill are situated in the Meinau quarter – a site that also houses the stone block yard and part of the Foundation’s collections. A workshop manager coordinates the various workshop trades and the on-site team. Around twenty craftspeople work there daily, supplemented each year by a Compagnon du Tour de France (journeyman) and apprentices. A team of three “rope-access” stonemasons is equipped to immediately secure the building and ensure visitor safety in the event of an emergency. They repair minor damage identified during daily inspections, thereby preventing issues from developing and avoiding costly restoration work.
