Auto-ethnographic Writing:
When I think of student-loan debt in the United States, I feel as if it has become
normalized by our society and we are expected to have an almost insurmountable amount
of debt after college.
I used to feel as if student debt would not be an issue for me
throughout my high school years, but as I began to apply for college I realized just how
stressful and frustrating the prospect of debt could be.
A big factor as to why I came to St.
John’s was because they offered me the most money, and I felt as if I would be in the best
financial position after graduating out of all the school I had been accepted into.
As I chose to enroll in St.
John’s, I thought that would be the end of my worries of
student debt.
I couldn’t have been more wrong.
I believed the scholarships offered to me
would make me stand out from the pack; I would be a student who had no worries about
financial debt.
