When an opposition player makes a flat call, they are calling but making a big
deal out of the fact that they did not raise the bet, even though they had the
option to.
Poker players have many different names for the limited amount of actions that
are available to them; this is because even though there are only a few different
choices to make, there are hundreds of ways to make them.
For example, if a
player turbo-mucks they are said to have thrown away their hand extremely
quickly.
A flat call is very specific, and happens when a player could have raised on the
flop or the turn but chose not to.
This is important because it shows us two
things.
Firstly, it may indicate that they player did not have a strong enough
hand to justify raising.
Secondly, they could just be playing a slow hand with
the absolute intention with raising your bets later on.
