Stud Poker – Starting the Game
There are many aspects of 7 Card Stud that are particular to this variation of poker.
One of
the unique aspects of Stud Poker is how the game starts, including how cards are dealt and
which player begins the betting with an obligatory ‘bring in’bet.
If you’re used to Texas Hold ‘Em, about the only similarity with Stud Poker is the hierarchy of

For the opening hand of the game, the dealer deals cards clockwise from his position as
normal.
However, play doesn’t necessarily begin with the player to his left.
In Stud Poker, 3
cards are deal in the first round: 2 ‘hold cards’ which are concealed, seen by the player
alone, plus a ‘door’card (also known as the ‘third street’card) which is dealt face up and
therefore exposed to other players.
The value of the door card determines where this first round begins.
