A Quick Guide to Poker Jargon: Crying Call
Is someone makes a crying call, they are making a decision that can hardly be justified, and
sometimes it cannot be justified at all.
A lot of the time a person who makes a crying call does
so because they are behind in the hand, and mistakenly believe that they could have the
implied odds to justify such a move.
Often, players will make a crying call on large pots,
because the implied odds for such draw are a lot stronger.
Often, players who are holding a strong unpaired hand such as an A/K or A/Q will make a
crying call if they don’t get the cards that they wanted in the flop.
An example of this would
be if Player I limps into things, and Player II makes a raise with an A/K.
Player I then calls on
that, and the flop is dealt and comes out as J/9/6.
This causes Player I to bet into the preflop
and his opponent, Player II makes a crying call and bets anyway, hoping that the turn and
river give him an Ace or King.
