I’ve spoken aloud the
Psalmist’s words of God’s
abundance hundreds of
times: “my cup runneth over.
”
Jesus expands the concept in
the New Testament to add
a cause-effect relationship:
“Give and it will be given to
you, a good measure, pressed
down, shaken together, running over, will be put into
your lap.
For the measure you
give will be the measure you
get back.
” (Luke 6:38)
Generosity is the key to
recognizing God’s abundance.
What we get back may not
come in terms of material
gifts.
Our cups and laps and
lives overflow with joy and
peace and fulfillment.
When
we give of ourselves freely
and abundantly, our
attitude and perspective on
life changes, and our eyes and
hearts open to see that “my
cup runneth over.
”
