Lukla, the city with the world s most
extreme airport
Lukla is a small and quiet town that is located a
steeper slope of Mount Everest in the country of
Nepal.
One day people saw a strange construction began
working in a ground that had dislodged much of that
hillside and everyone began wondering:
- What are they building?
- Who will be the owner of that land?
- Will it be a private or public construction?
- If I were a public construction, what benefit us?
Until one day, the mayor of the small town announced
that in that ground was building an airport.
When
construction finished everyone was surprised with
such extreme structure because the runway had been
built with a huge tilt and also in front of the airport
were two giant pits.
In January 2008, the airport was renamed in honor of
Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing Norgay, the
first persons to reach the summit of Mount Everest and
also made the first efforts to build this airport.
