THERE TO BE Utilizamos las formas there was y there were para expresar el verbo haber en pasado. A diferencia del español sí hay distinción entre singular y plural. Ejemplos: Había una mujer en el parque = there was a woman in the park Había tres mujeres en el parque = there were three women in the park Utilizamos there was cuando hablamos en singular. Sin embargo, si hablamos en plural utilizamos there were. Ahora la negaciones, ejemplo: no había una mujer en el parque= there wasn’t a woman in the park. No había tres mujeres en el parque = there weren’t three women in the park. Se le añade al verbo to be la particula not detrás del verbo o con la forma contraída. En la forma interrogativa, ¿había una mujer en el parque? = was there a woman in the park?, ¿había 3 mujeres en el parque? = were there three women in the park?.
