What was life like growing up in St.
Louis in the 1850s for you as a woman?
Kate Chopin:
My lifestyle was kind of hard.
Husband died and I had to take over his business.

really established and bringing enough money.
Along with a hard life I moved around a lot

I’m a story teller and a mother taking care of my kids by myself.
Along with all this
I’m surprise I had the time to write books.
My lifestyle was basically not the easiest to live.

How did the civil war change your life with your friends and etc.

The civil war didn’t really change my life a lot even though we had slaves but our city
worked both ways some of us had slaves and some of us didn’t.
Another thing is I only had
one friend so it didn’t really change my life.
But I lost my half- brother due to the war
because my half-brother enlisted in the Confederate
