According to "The Complete Idiot s Guide to Magic Tricks, most
magic card tricks contain the same basic premise.
The magician
asks an audience member to pick a card, then magically discovers
which card the spectator chose.
Adding variations to this trick does
not take much more effort, and can make you a great card
magician.
• The Basic Trick
Spread the cards out before the spectator and ask them to pick one.
Then ask them to
replace it.
Close and shuffle the deck.
You will then "magically" find the card they
picked, and ask "Is this your card?"
The Trick: While the spectator is still memorizing their card, cut the deck.
Do this by
pulling up half of the deck and holding it in your right hand.
At this point, you need to
subtly tilt the portion of the deck in your right hand so you can peek at the card on the
bottom.
Then ask the spectator to replace his chosen card in your left hand.
