  1   Sprayberry’s Celebrates 85th Anniversary Fact Sheet   • March 25, 2011 marked the 85th year celebration of Sprayberry’s Barbecue at its original location in downtown Newnan.   • As part of the festivities, both locations hosted a birthday party with cake and balloons for all customers as well as prizes, drawings and discounts.   • Sprayberry’s was first opened in 1926 by Houston Sprayberry as a gas station and grocery store in then small-town Newnan, Ga.   • By the 1950’s, Houston found he was making more money selling barbecue sandwiches and converted his business into Sprayberry’s Barbecue.   • Since 1926, Houston Sprayberry’s original recipes for the barbecue sauce, Brunswick stew and sweet-and-sour coleslaw have remained the same.   • Over the years, new items such as baby-back ribs, potato salad, barbecue nachos, smoked barbecue wings, beer, and wine have been added to the menu in order to appeal to more customers.
