Mourning has broken: On-field loss followed by news of off-field loss.
Stadiums 19.3 Million loss in just 11 months!
There are bums on seats but the bank account is bare! The news that the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium had recorded a loss of R19.3 million for the first 11 months of their financial year came as a major shock to residents and rugby fans who had taken it for granted that the huge crowds consistently drawn by the Southern Kings to their home Super Rugby matches at the stadium this season would guarantee the profitability of the venue. The Kings were the second best-supported home team of all 15 Super Rugby franchises over the course of the 2013 competition with an average home gate of 32 332 but even this impressive level of support, second only to the Stormers who averaged 36 425, was not enough to prevent stadium operator Access Facilities and Leisure Management from tabling a highly disappointing finance report for the period ended May 31.
