Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia
OU and MRC – developing
tomorrow’s science
leaders
MRC Unit, The Gambia was approved by
the Open University (UK) as an Affiliated
Research Centre (ARC) in 2006.
However,
the Unit’s history with the OU goes back
much further, with the first MRC/OU PhD
being awarded to the Unit Director, Professor
Tumani Corrah in 1995.
The Unit is one of a number (26) of the OU’s Affiliated
Research Centres, situated in the UK and worldwide;
Centres are visited once every 3 years on average.
Recently,
Professor Michael G Stewart (Department of Life Sciences)
and Helen Castley (Senior Manager, Collaborative Provision,
ARC Programme) made an ‘inspection’ visit to the Unit.
