Finally it
descended onto the 17th fairway as sunset beckoned at
lakeside Country Club.
Hues of purple and gold streaked overhead.
Regretfully, a most
pleasant round of golf would soon be over.
moments later, now
immersed in tranquil twilight, an approach putt sharply broke
toward the water fronting the 18th green and rolled out for a tap-in
par.
The round was over.
leaving the green, i glanced toward a
clubhouse that sparkled in the distance and was framed by two
small suspension bridges aglow in decorative lights.
This was a moment to savor.
such a setting has charmed lakeside members and their guests
for more than 50 years.
What is now an urban enclave of natural
beauty was once the country estate of an eccentric oilman.
