RYAN—Right smack in the middle of
Aggieland, a TCU Horned Frog broke the
collective hearts of the Texas A&M golf
team, their fans and family members.
James Sacheck, a 23 year old who grew up in
Indiana and graduated from TCU this spring, won
the 100th playing of the Texas State Amateur
Championship, which was held a chip shot from
the A&M campus at Miramont Country Club.
Crowd favorite and recent Aggie NCAA
Championship hero Bronson Burgoon missed a 3foot putt on the 72nd hole that would have forced a
playoff with Sacheck.
When his short putt didn’t
fall, the hopes of all the Aggies in attendance did.
For about 30 minutes earlier, down by a stroke
at the time, Sacheck burned the edge of the cup on
a 20-foot eagle try on the same hole.
He tapped in for birdie and a
four-day, 4-under-par total of 279 (70-64-78-67).
