ensing the Traditions Golf & Country Club in Bryan was teetering on a financial cliff, four Aggies put their heads and pocket
books together and wouldn’t allow this tradition to slip away.
Talk about an emotional goal line stand sparked by the Spirit of
Aggieland!
Late last year, the South Carolina-based Melrose Company, which
had partnered with the City of Bryan on the 943-acre golf and housing
community in west Bryan back in 2003, encountered tough times elsewhere in the country due to the credit crunch and real estate markets.
Even though the real estate side of the Traditions project was in
good shape, the future of the Jack Nicklaus-designed Traditions golf
course could have been in jeopardy.
Plus, it is the home to the
nationally ranked Texas A&M men’s and women’s golf teams.
So four proud Texas A&M graduates, one of whom even played
football for Bear Bryant, saved the day in late February as part of
