After Bob and Joan
Schenk’s grown daughter
suggested the North Carolina
couple look for a business
closer to her Little Rock home,
Bob began toying with the idea.
He started taking day trips
around Little Rock, traveling
from 100 to 200 miles away.
He
felt drawn to the area of life he
has known since he was in high
school: the grocery business.
Highway 167 led him
towards south Arkansas.
He
found Hampton with its one red
light and quiet life.
He also found the local
Town & Country market.
It was
for sale, he said the people
