The Calhoun County
Sheriff’s Office received a
911 call around 5:30 pm
Wednesday from a distressed
boater reporting that there had
been a possible drowning on
Champagnolle Creek below
Cooks Lake.
Deputies, and Sheriff Bob
Dunn responded, as well as
local emergency services and
Arkansas Game and Fish.
The boater is not from the
area and wasn’t sure where
he was to give directions
to law enforcement.
After
some searching, the caller
was located.
He told law
enforcement that the person he
had been fishing with had fallen
into the water and was believed
drowned.
Sheriff Dunn requested the
assistance of the Union County
Dive team who responded to
the scene.
After a brief search a body
was recovered around 9:30 and
pronounced dead at the scene
by Calhoun County Coroner
Tony Reinhart.
