About 10:30 on Monday
morning, Hampton Mayor Phil
Swofford fired Hampton Police
Chief Jeff Jackson.
By 3 o’clock that afternoon
not only did the city council
members meet with the mayor
for their regular monthly meeting,
but a KATV news reporter and his
camera man showed up.
Swofford said he had fired
Jackson for insubordination because he had instructed him to
issue a ticket to a renter living
in Swofford’s rental houses for
stealing water.
Swofford said that Jackson
instead went to the newspaper
and reported that he wasn’t going to serve the ticket.

declined the accusation saying “I
didn’t put it in any paper.
”
