Introduction This paper attempts to describe different theories used to analyse discourses and how the use of discourse analysis let us and our students to realise how language is spoken or written in real contexts. In this paper, we will explain the result of two texts analysis. One of the texts is focused on critical discourse and appraisal approaches; the second texts is focused on positive discourse and transitivity approaches. Before beginning to address the issue of this paper, it is important to be clear about what we mean by the concepts of discourse, discourse analysis, critical and positive discourse analysis, and its importance in language teaching. The online dictionary Merriam-Webster defines discourse as “a mode of organizing knowledge, ideas, or experience that is rooted in language and its concrete contexts (as history or institutions)”.
