When a baby celebrates his/her one year of age, itis tradition for the parents to do
the ‘quċċija’.
This tradition goes as far as the 18th
century and itis stillperformed
today.
On the day of the first birthday they do a sort of game that the parents believe itwill
predict the child’s future.
Ten objects would be put on a rug spread on the floor.
The baby is allowed to crawl
close to the rug and choose any object s/he prefers.
The object chosen willreflect
the job the child willdo when s/he grows up.
