Edward Osborne Wilson
Biodiversity Foundation Contributor and Pioneer
Born in June of 1929, Edward Osborne Wilson (E.
O.
Wilson) is most famous for his work in the
field of myrmecology, the study of ants.
An accident as a child left his vision impaired and led
him to take special interest in smaller subjects, in particular, insects.
He has now accomplished
enough in the biological world to have a biodiversity foundation named in his honor.
The E.
O.
Wilson Biodiversity Foundation says its mission “is to preserve biological diversity in
the living environment by inventing and implementing business and educational strategies in the
service of conservation.
” It seeks to combine the powers of the corporate and industrial worlds
with the natural resources found in the earth in order to preserve our lifestyles and communities.
