One of the side benefits of facing
such a milestone as the fifth
anniversary of our aging-in-place
program, Avenidas Village, is the
chance to pause and reflect on all
that was accomplished along the way.
This program, launched five years ago
in October of 2007, was cutting edge
to start with.
Yes, we all know Beacon
Hill started a Village in Boston, but
we were the first on the West Coast
to open, the first to affiliate with an
existing nonprofit senior services
agency, and the first to reach 350
members in just six months.
“The reason we’re one of the biggest
and highest ranking Villages since
launching is because we’ve been
innovative, and the driving force
behind that innovation is our
members,” states Avenidas Village
