In Remembrance SMU Dedman Law Remembers Professor Joseph J. Norton Professor Joseph J. Norton, a beloved member of the SMU Dedman School of Law faculty for more than 40 years, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2024. Professor Norton earned his A.B. from Providence College and LL.B. (Hons) from the University of Edinburgh. He received an LL.M. from the University of Texas, an LL.M. and S.J.D. from the University of Michigan, a Diplôme (droit privé) from Hague Academy of International Law, a D.Phil. (Law) from Oxford University, and an LL.D. from the University of London. In addition, he was honored with an honorary LL.D. degree from the University of Stockholm. Professor Norton had been a tenured Professor of Law at SMU Dedman School of Law since 1981 and served as an Adjunct Professor before that beginning in 1973.
