ZULFIKAR Joy Ali was training hard one month before his death, aiming for an international fight. He was physically in a form that I had last seen him in a few years ago when he was at his peak in the boxing ring. Known as the golden boy of Fiji’s boxing, he said in an interview at his home in Nawaka, Nadi, on December 4 last year about his life at that point in time. Having last met him about 18 months before that meeting on December 4, I was happy to see him back in his usual form. JoyAli, 36, as he was commonly known, showed me how he was back in his form and why — he was desperate for a fight. “I had some overseas fights arranged but I couldn’t go and fight because I had a case pending in court and my passport was also there,” he said in that interview which was published on December 6 last year. “But the case against me was dismissed on June 4 and I now have my passport back with me.
