Mercy Now – July 30, 2026 Newsletter for the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas Leadership message On July 19, we woke to a radiant sunrise, birds singing and trees swaying— a moment of lavish abundance in God’s creation. Yet, in that same hour, devastating news reached us: The MV Barima Ferry in Guyana had capsized with over 175 passengers on board. Seventy-six survived, but many bodies remain unrecovered. Families lost multiple loved ones, and grief swept across the world. The horror of traumatic death weighed heavily, even as the sky remained bright and the birds continued their song. Only faith can hold these two realities together. God is present in the suffering, lovingly holding the world, offering peace and comfort. In such shock, the only response is to sink into God and wait for grace and hope to emerge.
