On August 3, 2013, the Sisters of Mercy West
Midwest Community joyously celebrated as Sister
Renée Kettering formally professed religious
vows of poverty, chastity and obedience. In a
ceremony at Mercy Center Chapel in Farmington
Hills, Michigan, Sister Renée promised to serve
those in need as a vowed member of the Institute
of the Sisters of Mercy of the Americas.
“I respond with my life to the gift of Your love
and call,” Sister Renée proclaimed as Mercy
Sisters, Mercy Associates, Mercy Companions,
and friends and family looked on.
The first profession of vows is a significant
step in the multi-year process of becoming
a member of a religious order. Sister Renée,
however, has a long history with the Sisters of
Mercy.
The daughter of Tim and Christina Kettering,
Sister Renée first met the Sisters of Mercy as
