September 12, 2024 Leadership message Upon receiving the news of Sister Theresa Kane’s death, I revisited some of her story in the book, To Speak the Truth in Love: A biography of Theresa Kane, RSM, by Sister Christine Schenk, CSJ. It is in the very last pages of this book that I found this significant message that many of us may need to hear again. I offer the words of the author instead of my own reflections as we remember, with great fondness, a woman that called us to tender mercy and great challenges. “Theresa's vision of full ministerial equality for women in the Catholic Church is far from being realized, yet we may be closer to that long-sought ideal because of the dialogic breakthrough that was ultimately the unforeseen blessing of the Vatican's rebuke of Catholic sisters. The sisters' contemplative approach and decision-making processes made room for the Spirit of God to lead and guide them and the prelates Rome had appointed to investigate them.
