The basics of EMR
An electronic medical record (EMR) is a technological solution-- computerized legal
medical record that is automatically created in establishments that deliver healthcare-such as all the major hospitals, dispensaries and also operation centers.
Electronic
medical records are usually part of complete health information systems that allow
storing, retrieving and manipulation of medical records.
There are few things that are deemed necessary for a system to qualify as a complete
EMR system:
• The prescriptions have to be computerized and automatic
• The tests have to be computerized
• The patients test results have to be computerized
• And the notes that the physician gives also have to be computerized
In spite of reports that 25% of hospitals use EMR, less than 10% satisfy the above
criteria.
